MDeC Training, MMU Melaka - 3rd Batch (Part 3)
Part 3 - Egg Game (Continued...)
In the previous posting, we saw how the first 2 groups performed. Now, let's look at how Group #3 and Group #4 perform with their 'Masterpiece Structures'. Enjoy!
~
Ok...What do we have here? Group #3's Masterpiece...Honestly, when Hock Seng (my co-trainer) and I saw this structure, our first comment was...the opening is wayyy too narrow. Perhaps they forgot to consider the fact that the egg will be launched at a height of about 8 - 9 feet. Their chances are pretty slim...UNLESS...they can aim really really accurately....otherwise...NOPE...it won't work....they don't stand a chance(well...at least that was what we thought...)
~
~
The Egg launcher for Group #3 posing with Mr. Eggy...All smiles...
~
~
Group members doing their last minute adjustments...I like their spirit of team work and cooperation..
~
~
2 hours later.....(Just joking)...putting in their final touch...OK...enough!! let's get going you guys and girls...
~
~
Finally...Ze'Moment of TRUTH!! Will they succeed? What does the future hold for Mr. Eggy? 3..2..1..
~
~
WOW! Impressive! Their 1st attempt and IN it went! "What did I tell you Hock Seng? I KNEW they were gonna succeed...hahaha....OK OK....I admit...I was wrong....I shouldn't have passed judgement so soon...". What I learnt from this experience is that..."Nothing is Absolute...Nothing is for sure until the last minute..Anything is Possible! Sometimes in life...the thing that you least expect to happen...happens....this is just how life is...so, in whatever it is that you're working on, be prepared for any eventualities because according to Murphy's law..."If anything can go wrong, it will!" Similarly...according to uV's law (haha..).."If anything can go right...it will too!"
~
~
Well Done guys! I'm so proud of you. Look at their happy smiley faces...The Victorious Group #3!!
~
~
Next, we have Group #4..."guys...are you JUST STARTING to build your structure? We don't have the whole day! Oops...sorry guys...didn't see you structure at the back there..."
~
~
Group #4 doing some last minute adjustments on their structure...Clearly..they have an advantage here because they were able to learn from the experiences of the other groups...
~
~
What's she holding there?
~
~
Oh...that's very Creative! Joining a few straws together to assist in your aiming...Not bad....not bad at all...
~
~
Team members of Group #4 doing some last minute adjustments...
~
~
Here we have our Egg launcher with his team mate Mr. Eggy in his hands...Will Mr. Eggy survive?
~
~
Unfortunately....*sigh*....They were way off their target...Poor Mr. Eggy....I Can't bear to do this activity anymore....too many casualties...too many lives lost in the name of Creativity....
~
~
A closer look at poor Mr. Eggy......
~
That's all for this time...In our next posting, we're going to see how these students organized their graduation ceremony...You're gonna enjoy it....So, stay tuned!!!

Google Pack of Freebies...
Was surfing the net when I stumbled upon this ad from one of the sites I was visiting. Google Pack?? What's that? So, out of curiousity, I clicked on it and Voila! a whole range of freebies!!! Not sure how many of you have actually come across this ad (I don't surf the net that often.......ok ok...I was blind the last few times...couldn't see it...) and clicked on it.
Anyway, just thought of sharing it with those who have not clicked on this ad before...Google pack is a bundle of software specifically selected by Google. It's always free and doesn't require us to pay a single cent today, tomorrow or anytime in the distant future...and the best thing about it is that the software bundled in the package are not trial versions. All you need to do is just click on it...download it...and install it. It's just that simple....
There are 11 free software bundled together in Google Pack...Google Toolbar for IE, Spyware Doctor, Picasa, Star Office, Norton Security Scan, Google Desktop, Google Photos Screensaver, Mozilla Firefox Internet Browser with Google Toolbar, Skype, Adobe Reader 8 and Real Player.
I know I know...some of you may be thinking...I've got some of the programs already.
Do I still need to download all of them? The answer is No...The cool thing about Google Pack is that it allows you to choose and pick whichever software that you want. Anything that you don't want or don't need or already have...don't download it. Simple...
I downloaded most of the software and tried them out...and I can very much confirm that these software aren't trial versions.
And for the benefit of my fellow blog readers, I've actually prepared a link for those of you who'd like to download some of those freebies I mentioned. Go ahead and download it...it's FREE....FOC...Just click on the link (one of the links on the right) that states 'Get essential PC software with the free Google Pack' that looks like the image below and you're on your way!
That's all for now...Enjoy downloading and installing your freebies!

MDeC Training, MMU Melaka - 3rd Batch (Part 2)
The Egg Game...
~
Here we have the 1st group with their 'work of art'...all prepared and set to go! Ready to break some eggs? haha...
~
~
Doing some last minute adjustments to their structure...
~
~
And here we have the egg launcher, Meng Chung proudly showing us the egg he is about to break...just joking...(I'm so mean...Can't believe I said that...)
~
~
Chin Seong giving his team mate some moral support and encourgament...I'm sure Meng Chung is now under alot of stress.... to not disappoint his fellow team mates...to not let them down...All the best guys!!
*Good luck to you too, eggy...*
~
~
Here comes the egg!!! *drums roll*...absolute silence just seconds before the egg is launched...is the egg going to survive?
~
~
OoOopPss!!...the first casualty...Anyway, he aimed well....just that there wasn't enough insulation to absorb the impact when the egg landed inside their structure...pity the egg...must've hurt....*ouch*
(notice the egg...or rather..what's left of the egg, at the top right hand corner of the structure...)
~
~
What went wrong? How come it didn't break the fall of the egg? WHY?? WHY??? I've already done all the calculations....F= mg...Force equals to mass multiplied by the gravitational acceleration....Impossible!! WHY????TELL ME WHY???
~
~
Haiyah....very simple....we should have placed more straws here...and we should have put the straws this way.....
The 1st group didn't quite succeed...neither did they fail...they merely obtained some undesired results...but as long as they don't give up, as long as they keep changing their approach to find better ways to design their structure...they'll definitely succeed one day.....Keep it up guys!
Anyway....let's shift our focus to the 2nd group...
~
~
The 2nd group with their spikey struture...(I guess the spikes are there to prevent members of the other groups from going near it...that's the only logical explanation I can come up with because I don't see how the spikes at the side and the bottom of the structure play a role in preventing the egg from breaking...any views from you readers out there? please feel free to leave a comment at the end of this posting...)
By the way...where's everyone?....?? (guess they're afraid of the spikes too? haha)
~
~
Here we have Pui Ling, the egg launcher for the 2nd group, doing some initial testing...testing 1...2...3...
~
~
The moment we've all been waiting for....Will this egg survive?
Maher giving Pui Ling some moral support and words of encouragement seconds before the launch...."You can do it...you can! Believe you can...then you can!" Good luck guys!
*good luck to you too eggy*...
~
~
Some last minute adjustments...by Datuk Seri Saeed...
Unfortunately, after much consideration, I have decided not to post the photo of Mr. Eggy's death. It was just too tragical...too painful...can't bear to look at the photo...but suffice to say... Mr. Eggy sacrificed itself for a noble cause...*sob*sob*
~
~
What happened? How come? CANNOT BE! Our structure is so perfect! Impossible!
Datuk Seri Saeed still coming to grips with the loss of their precious egg...their team mate...or rather...their broken and shattered team mate....
Pui Ling seems happy there....Guess she's trying to cheer her team mates up..."look guys....at least it wasn't you who launched our eggy team mate to DEATH....I was the one who did it...If at all someone should be sad...I should be the one!...But I'm not! I refuse to be! I'm positive about it...in every successful endeavour, sacrifices have to be made for the team to advance...to grow...to succeed. So, get over it and let's see what we can learn from this to ensure our success in the future...!! Ok...so, who wants to take the place of Mr. Eggy the next round?"
~
~
"Yeah, Pui Ling, I guess you're right...Let's see what we can learn from this experience...and see how we can use this experience to help us achieve the success we've always dreamed of....anyway...before we draw straws from Soon's hand (notice the straws in Soon's hand) to choose a replacement for Mr. Eggy...let's get a group photo for remembrance.."
~
~
erm...notice who's missing here? I guess they've chosen the replacement for Mr. Eggy....
~
In the next posting, we'll see how the other 2 groups fared...so, that's all for this time...See ya all and Ciao!

MDeC Training Program for MMU, Melaka (3rd Batch) - (Part 1)
June 2007, we conducted the MDeC K-Workers training program for the 3rd batch of University Undergraduates. This time we conducted the program for MMU Melaka students (again...)...but I would have to say that this batch of students were slightly different as compared to the 1st batch of MMU students we trained last year....This particular group of students were absolutely FANTASTIC ! Most of them have very good attitudes towards life...and most importantly, they're very willing to learn. I honestly believe this particular group of students will have a bright future and they'll definitely go very far in their lives...
As usual, I conducted the "Innovation & Creativity" module...but this time I had my very good friend and training partner, Ee Hock Seng co-train with me. I'm not going to bore all of you with more of my babbling and boring text, but suffice to say, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during this program! So, below are some of the photos we took during the training. Enjoy!
~
~
That's me!
~
~
And that's my very good friend and co-trainer, Mr. Ee Hock Seng conducting one of the sessions...he's a man with a very big heart and he's very fun to be with...
~
~
This time we tried something different...Instead of just using magic and mind-boggling puzzles to help unleash the creativity within the students...we also used very creative ways to teach the students how to count from 1 to 100 in Japanese....in under 10 minutes...(mind you, all of these students have no prior knowledge of the Japanese language). Just in case you're wondering what they're doing here, they're actually scratching their knee because it's itchy...*all of them having itchy knees at the same time??* YES...haha...well...actually NO...they're just using some creative linking methods to link the first 2 numbers to something they're familiar with. 1 in Japanese is ICHI, and 2 is NI. When you put them together, it sounds like "Itchy Knee"...
Just FYI, 1 to 10 in Japanese is:-
1 - Ichi
2 - Ni
3 - San
4 - Shi
5 - Go
6 - Roco
7 - Shi - Chi
8 - Hachi
9 - Kyu
10 - Ju
I'm not going to go into the details of how this is done, but if you're interested to find out how to do it, ATTEND THE TRAINING! haha...just joking. If you're interested to find out how to do it, just ask me out for a date...and I'll share it with you...this offer is open to ladies only...haha...as for guys, just give me a call, I'd be more than happy to share this with you... (if you buy me lunch!)
~
~
8 is Hachi...notice their hand gestures...the egg is Hatching...
~
~
10 is Ju...
1 to 100 in under 10 minutes...and all of them could remember it even after 2 days...no sweat!
This technique was actually taught to me by my dear friend and training partner Mr. Jeyaraman a.k.a. the Memory Man. This man has got fantastic memory! Jeya and I conduct public programs together to teach students how to significantly improve their memory and remember facts & information easily. During our program, we also share study techniques and mind-mapping techniques with the students to significantly reduce the time they need to do revision...and at the same time improve their results in exams so that they can have more time to develop themselves in other areas of their life (i.e. leadership, communication skills...etc...), which in my opinion, is equally important, if not more important than exam results.
~
~
As usual, we did the 'Egg Game'...This is the first group with their work of art...
~
~
A closer look at their structure...Looks solid and nice eh? Wonder if it'll prevent the egg from breaking.....
~
~
This is the 2nd group with their masterpiece...rather spikey struture they have...wonder if those spikes serve any purpose....or are they just for decoration?
~
~
A closer look at group #2's masterpiece...
~
~
And this is group #3, with their erm....structure?
~
~
A closer look at their...structure... looks more like a creative art piece...a very creative and beautiful piece of art...
~
~
This is group #4...with their.................erm.......straw bag?...
~
~
A closer look at the...Straw Bag structure....
~
Well, that's all for this posting. In the next posting, we'll see how the students launched the egg and which group's 'structure' managed to prevent the egg from breaking...till then, Ciao!....

Napoleon Hill International Convention - Putrajaya International Convention Centre
.gif)
March 12th & 13th, 2007...Napoleon Hill Associates Malaysia organized their FIRST ever International Convention at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Before I proceed further, for the benefit of those who do not know, or have not heard of Dr. Napoleon Hill, allow me to give you a brief introduction to the person who spent 20 years of his life researching why successful people are successful and why unsuccessful people remain unsuccessful...
Born in the Wise county of Virginia, Dr. Napoleon Hill is regarded as one of the most influential thinkers of the century. When he was in his early twenties, he was asked by the then richest man in America, Andrew Carnegie, whether he would be willing to dedicate 20 years or more of his life to discover the Secrets to Success. Of course, Dr. Napoleon Hill accepted the offer by Andrew Carnegie with nothing more than letters of recommendation to meet and interview 500 of the most successful Americans alive during his days. After dedicating more than 20 years of his life to finding the Secrets to Success, Dr. Napoleon Hill published an eight volume set of motivational books in 1928 entitled 'The Laws of Success' and later the renowned book entitled 'Think & Grow Rich', which has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide and continues to appear on the list of top business books. Since then, his books have inspired millions worldwide to achieve greater success for themselves.
Ok, back to the convention...some of the speakers invited to speak at the convention are Bob Proctor, Vic Conant, Charlie 'Tremendous' Jones, Martin Dunkerton, Henry Holden, Joe louis Dudley, and many more...
~
This is me with Vic Conant, President and CEO of Nightingale-Conant Corporation, the world's largest producer and publisher of personal development products and services. Vic has worked with more self-improvement authors than any other human being alive today and he has spent his entire adult life immersed in the Self Improvement Industry. He spoke on 'The Power of Personal Initiative in Business Success'. It was a real pleasure and honor meeting him.
~
~
This is Ms. Minli Lee (a training partner of mine) and me, with Dr. Joe Louis Dudley. He spoke on 'Applied Faith in Entrepreneurship'. I like the way he shares his ideas. Extremely passionate and powerful! From the way he delievered his talk, you know that he has really gone through a lot of adversities and defeats before getting to where he is now. And despite all the adversities and defeats, he still managed to rise above it all. I have great respect for him. He really knows his stuff! Anyway, just a little bit about him:-
Wrongly labeled mentally retarded as a child due to a speech impediment, Dr. Joe Louis Dudley has risen to unimaginable heights from the three-room farmhouse where he was born. Combining his education at North Carolina A&T State University with his career experience, and starting with US$10 or roughly RM35, Dudley founded Dudley Products, an enterprise that has grown from a small business to a well-respected multinational company. He now operates several multi-million dollar enterprises that sells products and provides training and education for markets around the world.
~
~
I'm sure you're familiar with this guy here. haha. That's me! One of the speakers in the not-too-distant future! Well, that's my aim of course...
The reason I took this photograph was because I wanted something I could use to visualize my goals of becoming a speaker at this convention in the future (if they ever hold it in Malaysia again).
~
~
This is MinLi and I...aspiring to be invited speakers for this convention in the future.
~
~
This again is MinLi and I, with Ms. Judith Williamson, the Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University. Met up with her a couple of months before the convention. She's a very warm, nice and beautiful person. Oh yeah, she was also my evaluator for my Science of Success (SOS) program that I did with Napoleon Hill Associates (NHA). This photo was taken at the Gala Dinner on the 2nd day of the convention.
~
~
This is me with Mr. Henry Holden. He spoke on one of Napoleon Hill's 17 Success Principles: 'SELF-DISCIPLINE'. His talk was really inspiring. To see a man on crutches doing much more than what a normal human being can do with their normal bodies...Seeing him on crutches got me thinking...."If he can do all the things that he has done despite his disabilities, I can surely accomplish whatever I put my mind into! If I can't, SHAME on me!"
A brief introduction to the inspiring Henry Holden:-
Having contracted polio in 1952, Henry Holden walks with cruthces and wears a leg brace. Yet, he has done much more than the average individual. Having a physical disability to most people would stop many from their dreams and aspirations, but certainly not Henry. Henry lives by his slogan "Attitudes are the Real Disability". With much self-determination Henry has accomplished many of his dreams.
~
~
This is Me with Mr. Martin Dunkerton, the director of the film "Miilionaire: Awaken Your Secret". He had his world-premiere screening of his inspiring documentary here in Malaysia, in conjunction with the Napoleon Hill International Convention at Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Here's a little bit about him:-
Award-winning freelance BBC director Martin Dunkerton has gone from filming documentaries about the homeless to nearly becoming one himself. After spending all his savings waiting for a big break with a Hollywood screenplay, Dunkerton returned to London almost bankrupt and questioning his faith in life itself. His life changed when a friend gave him 'Think and Grow Rich'. Dunkerton had an epiphany: What if he could retrace Napoleon Hill's mission to understand sucess? Could he apply Hill's principles and make a million dollars with a film based on a book written in 1937?
~
~
This is me with Charlie 'Tremendous' Jones. He's one of the most interesting persons I have ever come across. He truly is Tremendous! He was hugging me so tightly I could hardly breathe *Gasp*Gasp*...It was such a relief when he let go off me....haha... He's one extraordinarily humourous person....and the speed at which he speaks...Super Fast! Like a bullet train...He spoke on the "Keys to Success".
A little bit about this Tremendous speaker:-
Charlie Jones expresses the keys to success in straightforward, common sense language. His book, 'Life is Tremendous', has sold over 2 million copies in 12 languages, and he has lectured to thousands of audiences around the world. Mr Jones is an expert in leadership and uses his talents as a humorist to break down his listeners' barriers while teaching his motivational message.
Charlie entered the insurance industry at age 23, by 39 his organization exceeded US$100,000,000 in sales, at which time he founded Life Management Services, to share his experience through seminars and consulting services. For more than fifty years, his purpose and passion has been exciting people to read, think, & share.
~
~
And finally, this is me with Dr. William R. Wright and his wife... Dr. Wright was my instructor when I did the Distance Learning program with the Napoleon Hill World Learning Centre. He's a very positive person and is an extremely encouraging instructor / mentor. I've really learnt a lot from him throughout the program. My understanding of the 17 principles of success as outlined by Dr. Napoleon Hill was greatly strengthened by Dr. Wright during the 15 weeks program. Will be forever thankful to him...

MDeC Training Program - UTAR PJ (Batch 2) - (Part 4)
GRADUATION CEREMONY
Students who undergo the MDeC Soft Skills Training program are required to plan, organize, and run their own graduation ceremony, and the event is normally done on the last day of the program. We trainers were also invited to the graduation ceremony and I would have to say that I was really really impressed with the way they organized this event. As mentioned in one of my earlier postings, I couldn't believe that the whole event was actually organized by the students. They did an absolutely fantastic job! The program flow was done very well and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We took alot photos during the ceremony...but I can't possibly post everything here...or else it would take me forever to finish this posting. Anyway, here are some of the ones I'd like to share with you readers...so, enjoy!
~
This is Ms. Yap Siew Ting, the organizing chairperson...and here she is saying a few words on behalf of the students...I remember her well because she's always smiling during the training =)
~
~
"OK...this is how u hold the weapon! and this was how my sifu (mentor), Bruce Lee taught me to hold it..." haha...this is the first group showcasing their Creativity & Innovation project. It's actually a Multipurpose Umbrella...which can also be used as a walking stick for old people...of course, there are other functions for this umbrella...but we're not going to go into the details...
~
~
More explanation regarding their invention...
~
~
This is Frank, the model and spokesperson for the 2nd group. Here he is, showcasing his group's invention, the Multipurpose Jacket. This jacket can be worn as a normal day to day use jacket...but in the event of a flood, this jacket can be inflated and converted into a life jacket, which will help keep you afloat and prevent you from drowning. If I'm not mistaken, this jacket can also protect the person wearing it from getting burnt in the event that a fire breaks out.
~
~
This is the 3rd group with their invention...the Electric Handbag...The idea behind this handbag is to electrify those snatch thieves who attempt to snatch your handbags...by activating the alarm on the handbag, you can actually 'fry' your assailant. (interesting idea...just don't accidentally fry yourself when using this handbag...)

MDeC Training Program - UTAR PJ (Batch 2) - (Part 3)
CREATIVITY & INNOVATION
The next module we had was 'Creativity & Innovation'. This is a 4-day module, aimed at helping students understand what Creativity is, how to apply Creativity in Problem Solving and Decision Making, and most importantly, how to Think-Out-Of-The-Box when solving problems in their daily lives and professional lives.
~
Look at how serious the students are...There's no need to be so serious! Relax and have fun!
~
~
After lunch during the 2nd day, one of the students, Frank, "Volunteered" (or rather..he was volunteered, to be more exact) to entertain us with a song. He gladly came to the front of the class to showcase his talents...he started slow...but as he continued...the class started joining him...one by one his friends joined in...and very soon...the whole class was singing together...holding hands and waving their hands in the air. Too bad I didn't get a photograph of that. But it was truly a wonderful sight, I must say!
~
~
Creativity is about making things / tasks better and faster. So, here we have one of the students, Siew Ting, learning how to fold a T-shirt in under 3 seconds. Amazing?
~
~
Another student giving it a go...
~
~
This picture was taken during the 3rd day of the program...during the 'EGG game'. This is the first group...showing off their masterpiece...a structure made of straw and some masking tape. This structure is supposed to break the fall of an egg which will be launched from a height of about 7-8 feet.
~
~
The 2nd group showing off their masterpiece...look at how elaborate their structure is! It's extremely stable...thanks to the 2 engineers in their group...
~
~
And finally, this is the 3rd group...this group is full of Creative energy because they have 7 girls and only 1 guy in the group (in general, girls have more creative energy in them, whereas guys have more logic and reasoning power).
~
That ends this posting...next, we're going to see the students in action during their graduation night...so, stay tuned!

MDeC Training Program - UTAR PJ (2nd Batch) - (Part 2)
STAND UP & SPEAK+050.jpg)
~
The students really DO STAND UP & SPEAK! To the extent of standing on their chairs just to prove that point.
~+004.jpg)
~
Of course, we even had a session on 'Stand Up & Sing'. Btw, the young lady in the picture is Ms. Jessy Man, one of the finalists in the reality show (Malaysia's Most Beautiful). We had a Celebrity trainee with us during the training!
~+020.jpg)
~
Seeing how well Jessy sang, the guys insisted on doing a duet also. So, we had a 'Stand up and Duet' session. *Applause* (I'm proud of you, guys!)

MDeC Training Program - MMU Melaka (1st Batch)
Somewhere in June last year (2006), I had the privilege to conduct a training for the undergraduates of Multimedia University (MMU), Melaka, under the Global Knowledge Worker Program (GKWP) initiated by Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Malaysia, with the support of the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the K-Workers Development Institute (KDI). The students selected to undergo this training were trained on the relevant professional skills and knowledge to enable them to operate effectively in the real-world environment with the ultimate goal of helping them transform themselves into "Knowledge-Workers" and "Results-Driven Professionals" in their respective industries.
There are 6 modules in the overall training program; Self-Mastery, Stand Up & Speak, Innovation and Creativity, Business Communications, Customer Service Excellence, and Workplace Etiquette. Altogether, the training took 15 days, and the 'Innovation and Creativity' module itself was 4 days.
I had the privilege to conduct the 'Innovation and Creativity' module for the undergraduates. I must say that I thoroughly enjoy myself during these 4 days. To be able to share some of my ideas with the students on Creative Thinking and to actually see them grow, see them significantly change their mindsets and see them master the skill of thinking out-of-the-box. No amount of money could ever buy the sense of satisfaction that I get from helping these students make certain changes in their ways thinking, in their ways of doing things and ultimately in their lives. And the best part of all is that, I made so many new friends. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to take many photos, so...here are just a few of them.
Helping the students Think-Out-Of-The-Box. The girl on the left is thinking really really hard *scratch head*...

Getting the students to move their bodies abit and massage their friends after a heavy lunch. *ZzZzZzZzZzZzZzpy* Actually I was the one who was ZzZzpy... and yes, I was also the one who had a heavy lunch...
Turn around and massage the person at the back! Some of them laughed hysterically and said "Geli-lahhhhh". Personally, I can't take someone massaging my shoulders. *GELI*...That's why I always facilitate this activity...so that I don't have to get involved. Haha...
*No comments*...Forgot what I was sharing here. That was like 1 year ago! 12 months! 52 weeks! 8760 hours! 525,600 minutes! 31,536,000 seconds! *no wonder I can't remember*
